My first 18 years were spent on West 7th Street in a small Kansas town with the same name as the first woman general in the United States – Hoisington. I spent the next two decades criss-crossing the U.S. from the east coast to the west and back again. I have worked for US congressmen, the National Science Foundation, the Institute for the Future, a Hong Kong Hong, a university, a regional planning agency and other organizations in a variety of capacities – researcher, writer, grant maker, advocate, implementer and policy maker.

The one constant has been an abiding love for the heightened visual awareness painting creates for me.

My compositions represent a personal point of view and a continuing interest in the transitions of the landscape.

The subjects of my work may be family artifacts or a transitory view from a traveler’s window. I strive to capture on canvas what I observe as reflected and refracted light alters shapes and scatters color – analogous with our personal imprints on the area around us. Each painting is created with an intense focus on the subject matter that invites the viewer to share the richness and dimensions of a composition constructed by many small elements of light and reflection.

The SOWA Artists Guild at 450 Harrison Avenue is a non-profit association of professional studio artists. The Guild’s purpose is to promote the diversity and individuality of the artists working in this flagship space, 450 Harrison Ave, the center of the SOWA Art & Design District.

The SOWA Art & Design District of Boston has developed into a major artist community with hundreds of artists’ studios and dozens of galleries. At the center of SOWA, 450 Harrison Avenue is home to over 30 galleries and over 100 artist studios. The members of the SOWA Artist Guild are an eclectic group – from different parts of the world, working in different mediums, each with a unique approach to creative expression.
