Inviting, Abstract, Provacative Paintings
During Open Studios, visitors leave notes in my guest book. One person described my artwork as "abstract friend and inviting" while another wrote "provocative yet soothing". I treasure these notes because painting is a meditative experience to me and I am gratified to know that the peaceful aspect of my work transfers.
I seldom approach the canvas with a conscious intent, maybe a color but not a clear direction, just a brushstroke leading the way. Producing encaustic, monoprints, mixed media and work with acrylic and ail paints allows me great diversity and balance. I apply many layers of paint with a wide range of tools including brushes, rags, and palette knives in order to build moody serene surfaces which I then disrpub by scratching and sanding, exposing what's underneath. That discovery satisfies my insatiable curiosity.
